Healing, Energy Therapy, Spiritual Therapy, Reiki, Hypnosis and Natural Holistic Therapy

Douglas Eames, Ph.D., Tokyo, Japan

These so-called "alternative" therapeutic modalities may be able to help persons alleviate states of discomfort by providing a kind of "psychological caring". In other words, the act of receiving therapy from a trusted therapist and from an approach that one has belief and expectation for, is itself the efficacy of the therapy. This may be a valuable format of receiving care, and in many ways reflects a kind of cognitive-behavioral paradigm of therapy. The key is to find a caring and charismatic therapist that can serve one well in this regards.

Dr. Eames agrees that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most valuable assets in helping persons who are in need. Dr. Eames' approach is to first establish a trusting and caring relationship and to pinpoint those cognitive structures (i.e., automatic and dysfunctional thoughts and beliefs) that are related to the person's distress. He then tries to guide his clients to mold and modify these structures in a way that will allow growth and maturation of the individual so that they can function to their maximum human potential.
